In a tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, six peacocks lost their lives after apparently coming into contact with high-tension electricity lines, as reported by an official on Wednesday.

The mishap occurred on Tuesday afternoon, situated in front of a temple at Sirmati village in the Dimni area.

Local residents recounted that the peacocks were roaming freely in the open fields near the shrine when they encountered the high-voltage transmission lines overhead, resulting in their immediate death.

Villagers attempted to alert the electricity company and forest department officials regarding the incident, but received no response. To draw attention, they documented the scene with a video of the deceased peacocks and circulated it on social media.

VS Dangi, General Manager of the northern region electricity company, acknowledged the negligence, admitting that officials did not respond to the villagers' calls. He assured that he would address the matter and take further action.

This incident follows a similar occurrence last week when 11 peacocks were found dead near fields in a forest region of the tribal-dominated Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh.

The peacock, recognized as India's national bird, is protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Act, which provides the species with the highest level of safeguarding.
