Palghar Police Warn Public Against Kidnapping Rumors

Palghar police caution against child abduction rumors, stressing the need for verified information and public cooperation amid ongoing investigations.

Palghar Police Warn Public Against Kidnapping Rumors

The police authorities in Palghar, Maharashtra, have cautioned the public against spreading or believing rumors following the circulation of a viral message on social media. This message claims that individuals attempted to kidnap children in the area.

Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh addressed the issue on Tuesday night. He explained that the circulating message mentions a group of masked individuals allegedly seen traveling in a black Scorpio within the vicinity of the Kasa police station on July 14.

According to the message, one of these masked individuals purportedly approached some schoolchildren. In response, Deshmukh stated that the Palghar police are actively investigating the situation. He assured the public that prompt action would follow upon confirmation of any truth to the incident.

Deshmukh emphasized the importance of verifying information and maintaining peace, urging citizens not to succumb to rumors or take matters into their own hands. “Please have faith in the police,” he urged, “and cooperate with them in ascertaining the facts of this alleged incident.”

As background context, it's worth noting that in April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, two monks and their driver, traveling from Mumbai to Surat, were tragically lynched in Palghar district by a mob that mistakenly suspected them of being child abductors.
