Gandhi was joined by RJD's Tejashwi Yadav besides D Raja, MA Baby and Dipankar Bhattacharya, general secretaries of CPI, CPI(M) and CPI(ML) respectively, in a giant procession that commenced at the Income Tax crossing, around a hundred metres from vital installations such as the Patna High Court, besides offices of many political parties.
The leaders stood atop an open vehicle in the midst of a vast sea of workers of the parties helmed by them, as a march was staged to the Election Commission's office, about a kilometre and a half away.
The procession met with barricades in front of the Vidhan Sabha premises, a stone's throw from the EC office, where the leaders chose to address the gathering.

A slab of the Gambhira bridge, located on Mahisagar river which connects central Gujarat to the Saurashtra region of the state, collapsed, killing nine persons, Superintendent of Police (Vadodara rural) Rohan Anand said.
The bridge was located near Padra town in the district.
"According to the details available, around nine persons have died and another nine persons have been rescued, out of whom five have been referred to the SSG Hospital in Vadodara. None of the rescued persons is in critical condition. The rescue operation is still going on," Anand said.
He said 10 to 15 metres long slab of the bridge collapsed at around 7.30 am.
Five vehicles -- two trucks, two vans and an autorickshaw -- fell into the river after the bridge collapsed, Vadodara Collector Anil Dhameliya said.
Two other vehicles that came dangerously close to falling were dragged away to a safer location, the collector said.
Three persons on a two-wheeler, which fell into the river, managed to swim to safety, he added.
The nine persons killed in the bridge collapse included a child, Padra police inspector Vijay Charan said.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Patel expressed grief over the tragedy and said an order has been given to the state's roads and buildings department to conduct a probe into the collapse and submit a report.
In a post on X, he said teams of the state roads and buildings department and private engineers specialising in bridge construction have been instructed to immediately reach the spot and conduct a preliminary investigation into the causes of the collapse and other technical matters, and submit a report.
"The fire brigade team of the local municipality and Vadodara Municipal Corporation are working with boats and swimmers at the accident site as part of the rescue and relief operations. The NDRF team has also reached the scene and joined the rescue operation," the CM said.
Gujarat minister Rushikesh Patel said the bridge was constructed in 1985, and its maintenance was carried out periodically as and when required. "The exact reason behind the incident will be probed," he said.
Visuals showed the entire slab of the bridge between two piers having collapsed. The slab collapse caused the vehicles, which were passing through it, to plunge into the river.
Teams from Vadodara fire department and locals joined the rescue operation, an official said.
The nearly 900-metre-long Gambhira bridge has 23 piers and connects Vadodara and Anand districts of Gujarat. It was inaugurated in 1985.

The special intensive revision of the electoral rolls is an attempt to steal an election. We will not allow the EC to steal the (voting) rights of the electorate, especially the youth," he said.

But now, we are virtually kept out of the process and handed over a piece of paper containing names of Election Commissioners nominated by the BJP." "We have already exposed the Maharashtra model," Gandhi said, alluding to alleged addition of 'bogus voters' in electoral rolls of the western state where the BJP-led coalition achieved a landslide victory in assembly polls last year, months after being drubbed in the Lok Sabha elections.
"Glaring anomalies were found in the electoral rolls of Maharashtra where thousands of electors were shown to be residents of one house. The EC refused to share with us details when we flagged the discrepancies and kept speaking the language of BJP-RSS. They must remember they are here to serve the people and not for serving the BJP," the former Congress president said.
Gandhi added, "They want to replicate the Maharashtra model elsewhere. This time they may try to delete the names of many voters. But they must know this is Bihar. The people here can see through the designs." ISRO has successfully condscucted two hot tests of the Gaganyaan Service Module Propulsion System (SMPS) at the space agency's Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri on July 3.
The short-duration tests, lasting 30 seconds and 100 seconds respectively, were aimed at validating the test article configuration, ISRO said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The overall performance of the propulsion system during these hot tests was normal as per pre-test predictions. During the 100s test, simultaneous operation of all Reaction Control System (RCS) thrusters in different modes (steady state; pulsed) along with all Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) engines was also successfully demonstrated.
"ISRO's Liquid Propulsion System Centre (LPSC) is leading the technology development activities for the Gaganyaan SMPS. SMPS is a critical system of Gaganyaan Orbital Module and is required during orbital manoeuvring as well as specific abort scenarios," the space agency said.
It comprises five Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) engines (each 440N thrust) and 16 Reaction Control System (RCS) thrusters (each 100N thrust). In order to simulate the propulsion system conditions closer to flight, the SMPS test article for these hot tests incorporated improvements based on experience gained from earlier hot tests.
"With the confidence gained through these hot tests, ISRO will conduct a full duration hot test shortly," the statement said.
According to ISRO, the Gaganyaan programme aims to demonstrate India&rsquo;s capability to launch a crewed spacecraft into low Earth orbit, and the experience and knowledge gained from this mission will be crucial for its success.

Medals and awards from different departments will also be distributed during the ceremony. Departments have been instructed to constitute juries and submit the list of awardees to the General Administration Department by July 29, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.
&ldquo;The ceremony must be organized in a dignified, well-coordinated, and patriotic manner, as done every year,&rdquo; the Additional Chief Secretary directed during the meeting.
Chief Minister Sai&rsquo;s address will be broadcast live throughout the state via Doordarshan and All India Radio. Following the formal proceedings, school students will present patriotic group songs and dances. A jury from the School Education Department will evaluate the performances, and awards will be distributed at the venue.
The Collector, Superintendent of Police, and Municipal Commissioner of Raipur have been given key responsibilities to oversee the arrangements for the event.
To mark the occasion, all public buildings and national monuments across Chhattisgarh will be illuminated on the night of August 15. Private institutions have also been encouraged to hoist the national flag and decorate their premises with lights.
Collectors have been directed to organize programs and exhibitions at the district, block, and panchayat levels. Families of freedom fighters and soldiers martyred in Naxalite violence will be invited and honored at the celebrations.

In a major diplomatic triumph for India, eight veterans of the Indian Navy who were once sentenced to death in Qatar have been freed. Seven of them have returned to India.
Setting foot in their homeland after months of captivity in Qatar, the veterans chanted 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and praised the efforts of the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in securing their release.
The eight Indians who were accused of allegedly spying on a submarine programme had been imprisoned in Qatar since October 2022.

In a significant breakthrough against trans-border narco-smuggling amidst the ongoing anti-drugs 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Bathinda Police has busted an international drug cartel being operated by foreign-based smuggler with the arrest of its six key drug traffickers and recovered 40 kg heroin from their Toyota Fortuner car, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.
Those arrested have been identified as Lakhvir Singh alias Lakha (33), Prabhjot Singh (26), Ranjodh Singh (27), Akash Marwaha (21), Rohit Kumar (25), and Gurcharan Singh alias Guri (27), all residents of Malout in Sri Muktsar Sahib. Accused persons Lakhvir Singh and Prabhjit Singh have criminal background with cases pertaining to Arms Act and NDPS Act registered against them respectively.
The development came close on the heels of Amritsar Commissionerate Police busting a drug cartel being operated by Pak-based smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada-based handler Joban Kaler with the arrest of nine drug smugglers and recovered huge consignment of 60.302 Kg Heroin from near the International Border in Barmer, Rajasthan.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the consignment was sent by Pakistan-based handlers for further distribution in Punjab.
The DGP said that further investigations are on to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to uncover the full extent of the drug supply chain, including its cross-border linkages.
Sharing more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bathinda Amneet Kondal said that the operation began after specific inputs were received about drug smuggling in the area.
Acting swiftly, a team from CIA Staff-1 Bathinda launched a special operation and intercepted a Fortuner car, bearing registration number PB-53E-6771, with six occupants, she said, while adding that during search 40 Kg Heroin was recovered from the vehicle.
The SSP said that probe has also revealed that drugs were being smuggled from across the Indo-Pak border and routed through local smugglers in Punjab. Further working on backward linkages more accused associated with Pakistan-based handlers are being identified and raids are being conducted to nab them, she added.
In this regard, a case FIR no. 132 has been registered under section 21C of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kotwali in Bathinda.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and National Convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday ushered new era of health revolution in state as with launch of Mukh Mantri Sehat Beema Yojna Punjab became first state in the country to provide cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh to all its residents.
Addressing the gathering during the launch of Mukh Mantri Sehat Beema Yojna here today, the Chief Minister said that a number of families across the state are suffering from serious ailments but can&rsquo;t afford to get quality treatment due to its high cost. He said that people just gave up because they have to either sell their land or house to get treatment for the diseases. Bhagwant Singh Mann bemoaned that this is because of the lackluster performance of the previous regimes that had never bothered to pay heed towards this issue.
The Chief Minister said that now with the launch of this policy all the residents of the state will be entitled for cashless treatment worth Rs 10 lakh. He said that the treatment will be free in all the empanelled hospitals of the state government thereby giving a huge succour to the common man. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that now no residents in the state will have to shelve even a single penny from his pocket for getting treated for serious ailments.
The Chief Minister said that Arvind Kejriwal is credited for bringing sectors like health, education, power, water and infrastructure at the centre stage of national politics. He said that these sectors are the top five priorities of his government and no stone is being left unturned for it. &nbsp;Bhagwant Singh Mann said that while the other political parties have always pursued the agenda of hatred and divisiveness, AAP under Kejriwal had given new direction to politics by according top priority to these sectors.
The Chief Minister said that the card will be issued free of cost without formalities to the people and will pave the way for providing quality treatment to them. He said that this is contrary to what the other governments are doing across the country adding that the PM is now even seeking proof of birth for the people who have been voting since ages. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab had suffered the brunt of the partition when millions of people were killed and others were displaced.
The Chief Minister said that Punjabis have been unnecessarily made targets by the self proclaimed nationalists who are envious of Punjab and Punjabis. Citing the case of the movie of Actor Diljit Dosanjh, he said that the movie of this actor which was made much before the Pahalgam attack has been unnecessarily banned in the country. Bhagwant Singh Mann said Punjabis had always played a key role in making the country self-reliant in food production and safeguarding the borders of the nation.
The Chief Minister said that in the recent war like situation with Pakistan it was Punjab who suffered adversely but the country witnessed political drama on the name of operation Sindoor too. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is ironic that the BJP and Union government sent Sindoor in every household without any rationale and made mockery of the emotions of the people. He said that these were mere theatrics of those at power in the centre and the wise people of the state and country never fell prey to it.
The Chief Minister said that a learned person like Arvind Kejriwal is the panacea of all the ills of the country. He said that when a person like Kejriwal will lead the country only then it will lead the world and all the social maladies will be removed. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is a writing on the wall that this day is not far away as people are eagerly waiting to show the door to the one who is sitting on the chair of the PM.&nbsp;
The Chief Minister said that this pious land has produced saints, seers, martyrs, legendary players and generals. However, he said that unfortunately under the patronization of the earlier governments the smugglers, gangsters and other criminals have made this state their abode. But, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government has now started a crusade to weed out these anti-national elements adding that this blot will be soon washed away.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the &lsquo;Jarnails&rsquo; responsible for pyres of youth will be held accountable and they will have to pay for their sins. He said that these haughty politicians who were fond of posing for pictures by swirling their moustaches are now behind the bars. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these leaders, who had ruined generations of state, will have to pay the price of their sins and the state government will ensure that they get exemplary punishment for their misdeeds.
Earlier, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh welcomed all the dignitaries and informed about the path breaking initiatives taken by state government in the health sector.

National Convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is a step towards providing universal healthcare facilities to people without spending even a penny on it.
Addressing the gathering after the launch of Mukh Mantri SEHAT Yojna here today, Arvind Kejriwal said that this work which is being done today should have been done 50 years but unfortunately it was never on the agenda of those who ruled the country. He said that due to this only the AAP has always focused on providing quality Health and Education services to the people so that they can excel in life. Arvind Kejriwal said that those who claim to make the country Vishavguru have hitherto denied the country from these facilities due to which the country has lagged behind.&nbsp;
Citing examples of countries like Singapore, Japan, Germany and others, Arvind Kejriwal said that they excelled because these countries had focused on these issues. He said that the work which is being done by AAP these days is the real work of nation building. Arvind Kejriwal said that now Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is being introduced in the state which will be operational from October 2 after which camps will be organized to enroll the people for the scheme.

He congratulated the people on this red letter day and said that only an honest government will bother for the well being of the common man. Arvind Kejriwal said that the state government has not levied any fresh tax on people but had checked the pilferage of the public money, which is being spent on development and welfare of people.
Arvind Kejriwal said that today is a historic day for the healthcare sector in Punjab as under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, every family in Punjab will now receive cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh. He said that Punjab under leadership of Bhagwant Mann has become the first state in the country where every family is entitled to cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh. Arvind Kejriwal said that starting today, the entire population of 3 crore in the state will be eligible for free treatment under this scheme.&nbsp;
Arvind Kejriwal said that, earlier, a family could avail treatment only up to ₹5 lakh but now this limit has been increased to ₹10 lakh. He said that with the launch of this scheme, Punjab has set a new example for the rest of the country. Arvind Kejriwal said that Punjab is now the first state in India to provide its citizens with free healthcare, education, electricity, and bus travel.
Arvind Kejriwal said that acting on the message of Sarbat da Bhala (welfare of all) given by the great Gurus, the Punjab government has taken steps for the well-being of all sections of society. He said that every citizen of Punjab will be entitled to free healthcare, whether they are government employees or pensioners. There is no income limit under this scheme. Arvind Kejriwal said that, previously, only eligible families could benefit from treatment up to ₹5 lakh but now, all citizens are covered.
Arvind Kejriwal said that health cards under this scheme can be made at Seva Kendras or Common Service Centers (CSCs). He said that in addition, health cards can also be obtained through online registration using an Aadhaar card or voter ID. Arvind Kejriwal said that under this scheme, any citizen can avail free treatment at any government hospital or empanelled private hospital adding he envisioned that now, no citizen of Punjab will have to forgo treatment due to financial constraints adding that the state government will continue more such pro-people and development oriented initiatives in the coming days too.

A Jaguar aircraft of the IAF crashed in Rajasthan's Churu district on Wednesday, official sources said.
The aircraft crashed in an agriculture field in Bhanoda village around 1.25 pm, SHO Rajaldesar, Kamlessh added. He said human body parts were found near the crash site.
Shortly after the crash, locals rushed to the site and found burning debris.
Policemen from Rajaldesar and Ratangarh police station, fire brigade and ambulance also rushed to the spot, Circle Officer, Ratangarh, Anil Kumar said.
The area has been cordoned off.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath launched the WEE Index, highlighting women&rsquo;s gains from state schemes in Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar, and Varanasi, while directing real-time monitoring and targeted interventions in lagging districts.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday was presented with the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Index&mdash;an initiative by the Planning Department and the Udayati Foundation, which showed women in Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar and Varanasi benefitting from government initiatives.
The WWE index assesses the reach of government schemes among women and drives gender-inclusive, evidence-based policymaking.
Calling it a &ldquo;historic step,&rdquo; the chief minister highlighted its role in promoting dignity and self-reliance for women across Uttar Pradesh, an official statement said.
The index evaluates all 75 districts across five core parameters: entrepreneurship, employment, education and skill development, livelihood, and safety and transportation infrastructure.
It provides insights into which districts are effectively extending benefits to women and where targeted interventions are required.
Adityanath directed that the WEE Index be integrated with the CM's control room to ensure real-time monitoring.
"All departments must treat the index as a foundational tool for policymaking and tracking outcomes. Departments should formulate actionable plans based on the index, prioritising women&rsquo;s empowerment in their respective areas. District-level strategies must be developed to localise the impact of state schemes," he said.
The presentation highlighted districts such as Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar and Varanasi, where women notably benefited from government initiatives.
In contrast, districts such as Shravasti, Sambhal, Mahoba, Balrampur, and Siddharthnagar were flagged for urgent intervention.
Adityanath directed that targeted campaigns be launched under the ODOP Margin Money Scheme in Banda, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Mahoba, Shravasti, and Sitapur to ensure greater inclusion of women.
He also stressed the need to expand women&rsquo;s participation in the workforce and governance.
Calling on the need for prioritising women in the recruitment of home guards and teachers, similar to the policy followed in police hiring, the chief minister also directed special efforts to increase women&rsquo;s enrollment in technical institutes, vocational programs, and skill training centres.
Every district, he said, should set up a &lsquo;re-enrolment unit&rsquo; to bring back women who had dropped out of skill courses.
The chief minister highlighted the importance of ensuring paramedical institutes are available to support women&rsquo;s advancement in healthcare and service sectors.
The meeting also discussed strategies to enhance women's participation in the public transport system. Adityanath advocated for providing women with opportunities as drivers and conductors, along with specialised training and support facilities.
The chief minister urged all departments to treat the WEE Index not as a mere report, but as a mission-critical framework.
Stressing the timely implementation of plans and achievement of targets, Adityanath stated, "Only when women become the central force behind development schemes will the overall progress of society and the state be ensured."&nbsp;
