Mizoram CM Urges Order Amid Rising Aizawl Teenage Gangs

Aizawl, July 2 (PTI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday highlighted the importance of transforming Aizawl into a more organised and disciplined city. During discussions with leaders of Aizawl Local Councils, Lalduhoma expressed concern over the rise of teenage gangs engaging in violent confrontations and group fights, as stated in an official release. Local Councils operate under the Local Administration Department of the state government. Labeling these gangs as unruly and anti-social, the chief minister stressed the urgency of tackling this issue. He underscored the necessity of restoring order and curbing such activities effectively. Urban areas must not be allowed to become disordered or unsafe, Lalduhoma added, pointing out that their development should prioritize the safety and well-being of women and children. He urged Local Councils to collaborate closely with community volunteers in their areas to proactively promote peace and social discipline. Addressing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) matter, the chief minister highlighted the supportive role Local Councils can play in law enforcement, particularly in issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs). He advised Local Councils to exercise increased responsibility and caution in this process. Local Council Association leaders requested Lalduhoma to allocate a space for setting up an office in Aizawl and to increase their honorarium. The chief minister assured them that he would consider the proposal, the statement mentioned.
