Bihar Man Arrested for Masquerading as IAS Officer in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 30 (PTI) A 32-year-old man, identified as Chandramohan Singh from Bihar, has been arrested for allegedly masquerading as an IAS officer, staying at a Customs guest house in Mumbai, and traveling in a vehicle with a 'Government of India' nameplate, an official reported on Monday.

Chandramohan Singh reportedly claimed to be an employee of the Ministry of Home Affairs to gain access to the Customs' facility.

He traveled around the city in a car displaying a 'Government of India' nameplate.

His deceit was initially undetected when he was stopped by a traffic constable in Dadar for a traffic rule violation, as he claimed to be an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and managed to evade further questioning.

However, based on a tip-off, law enforcement tracked him down outside a hotel in the Malad area on Saturday, where he was found in a car accompanied by a driver.

Singh initially continued the charade, presenting a fake IAS identity card.

However, during the investigation, he admitted that the documents were forgeries.

Authorities also recovered other documentation in his possession that suggested he was associated with the Ministry of Defence.

He was arrested on Saturday and charged under applicable legal provisions.

The police are currently investigating Singh's motives for impersonating an IAS officer.
