Drama at Delhi airport over Air India flight to London being delayed by 3 hours; DGCA issues warning

A delayed flight, angry passengers, and a warning by authorities - Delhi airport was once against the stage for dramatic scenes. It began with a three-hour delay in Air India's Delhi-London flight on May 24.

Passengers claimed that the delay was caused by flight crew being late, and some seats "not working", as per a Hindustan Times report. Some business class passengers were downgraded, and some couldn't board the flight due to seats "not working", according to the report.

However, Air India claimed that the delay was due to the previous day's bad weather, when Delhi saw heavy rain.

India's civil aviation watchdog, DGCA took note of the incident. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation told airlines not to "book passengers beyond serviceable seats meeting the approved design specification available in the aircraft". DGCA warned that non-compliance would be "viewed seriously".
