Delhi govt's warning to bike taxis: jail, fine, licence suspension threats for 2-wheelers' commercial use

The Delhi government has issued a warning to bike taxis plying in the national capital. Delhi government's transport department said that using two-wheelers for commercial purposes is a violation of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Cab aggregators offering bike taxi services would be liable for a fine of ₹1 lakh, the government was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The first offence could lead to a fine of Rs 5,000 while a second offence could incur a Rs 10,000 fine and imprisonment of up to a year, the department said in a public notice. The driver will also lose their licence for three months under the circumstances.

Recently, bike taxi aggregator Rapido failed to get relief from Supreme Court against Maharashtra government's decision to grant licence to the company.
