The operation involved the deployment of 300-400 Pakistani drones targeting civilian buildings, military installations, and religious sites across northern India, as stated in the briefing.
Despite the ongoing tension, flight-tracking websites revealed the presence of civilian flights in Pakistani airspace on Friday evening, in stark contrast to the grounded status within Indian airspace.&nbsp;
India's air defense network played a crucial role in intercepting and neutralizing the drone threats, effectively jamming and shooting down several of the attacking drones.
Meanwhile, heavy shelling by Pakistan in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the tragic deaths of two students whose home was hit.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned Pakistan's actions during a press briefing in Delhi, highlighting the disturbing trend of targeting temples, gurdwaras, and convents.
Pakistan reportedly launched multiple Asisguard Songar armed drones, which were effectively countered by India's defensive measures. The incident underscores escalating tensions in the region, with diplomatic and military ramifications expected in the coming days.
During the press briefing of Wing Commander Vyomika Singh on #OperationSindoor, she said, "On the intervening night of 8th- 9th May 2025, #Pakistan military carried out multiple violations of Indian airspace along the entire Western Border with an intent to target military infrastructure. Pakistan military also resorted to firing of heavy caliber weapons along the LoC.
Along the international border and LoC, drone intrusions were attempted from Leh to Sir CreeK at 36 locations with approximately 300 to 400 drones. Indian armed forces brought down these drones using kinetic and non-kinetic means. Jasvir Kotla, general manager of Punjab Roadways, Hoshiarpur, said none of the depot's buses were sent to Jammu on Friday as a precautionary step in light of the prevailing situation.
"In view of the current tense atmosphere resembling war-like conditions between India and Pakistan, no Punjab Roadways buses from Hoshiarpur have gone to Jammu today. The service has been halted temporarily as a precautionary measure," Kotla said.
He added that buses are currently operating only up to Pathankot.
This restriction applies to buses from Hoshiarpur as well as those from other depots that usually run services to Jammu.
The Hoshiarpur depot has three regular routes to Jammu, all of which have been suspended for now.

Amidst the ongoing anti-drug campaign &lsquo;Yudh Nashian Virudh&rsquo; launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police&rsquo;s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted an international narco-smuggling module being operated by foreign-based smuggler Jassa with the arrest of his two India-based operatives and recovered 10 kg heroin and Rs 1 lakh drug monet from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.&nbsp;
Those arrested have been identified as Gurpinder Singh, a resident of Indra Colony in Majitha Road, Amritsar and Sajan, a resident of Chak Mishri Khan in Amritsar. Police teams have also seized their black Hero Splendor motorcycle (PB-02-EM-2025), which was used for smuggling the contraband.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that accused Jassa, who is an abroad-based drug and weapons smuggler, is wanted in multiple cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act registered at Police Station SSOC Amritsar.
Pertinently, this is third module&mdash; being operated by foreign-based Jassa&mdash; has been busted by the CI Amritsar in last ten days. Earlier, an operative of Jassa identified as Abhishek was arrested with seven pistols and Rs 1.5 lakh, and few days after, police teams had recovered 5 kg heroin from the hideout of Jassa&rsquo;s absconding associate identified as Jodhbir Singh alias Jodha.
Sharing operation details, the DGP said that acting on reliable input about accused persons Gurpinder and Sajan coming in the area of Bypass, near Escort Hospital Amritsar to deliver huge consignment of heroin to some another party, police teams from CI Amritsar launched an intelligence-led operation in the area and apprehended both the accused persons, who were on their motorcycle. During their search, 10 kg heroin and Rs 1 lakh drug money was recovered, he added.
He said that preliminary investigations indicated that the both the arrested accused persons were going to deliver the drug consignment following the instructions of their foreign-based handler, Jassa. &nbsp; Further investigation is underway to uncover backward and forward linkages in this case, he said, while adding that more arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days.&nbsp;
A case FIR No. 30 dated 08.05.2025 has been registered under sections 21, 25, 27-A and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.

The Punjab State Child Rights Commission has summoned reports from the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala regarding the recent road accident in Patiala.
Providing more information on this regard, Commission Chairperson Mr. Kanwarjit Singh said that the Commission has taken suo-moto notice of the case where seven students and a driver died in a horrific collision between a school vehicle and a tipper truck, with many others injured.
The Commission has written to the Deputy Commissioner Patiala directing that all possible treatment be provided to the injured children. The Regional Transport Officer has been strictly instructed to thoroughly inspect overloaded tippers/vehicles plying on roads. Besides this, the Commission has directed that the vehicles of the affected school and all schools in the district be inspected and strict action be taken against school vehicle drivers and schools if the vehicles do not meet prescribed conditions.
Likewise, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala has been instructed to thoroughly investigate the tipper, driver's license, complete documentation of the tipper including valid RC, fitness certificate and compliance with government mining policy conditions regarding road usage and overloading and to take appropriate action against the tipper owner according to regulations.
The Commission has sought action reports from both the Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Patiala by May 11, 2025.

This infiltration bid was supported by fire from Pakistan Rangers post Dhandhar, a BSF spokesperson said.
He said the troops neutralised the infiltration bid, killing "at least" seven terrorists and caused "extensive" damage to the Dhandhar post.
Officials said there could be more terrorists, who could have been neutralised.
The BSF also shared a thermal imager clip of the firing and "destruction" of a bunker of the said post where a heavy machine gun of the Rangers was mounted.
The force is on high alert in the wake of the current hostilities between the two countries following the Pahalgam terrorist attack of April 22 and India's strike on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation.

Drones were reportedly intercepted in areas such as Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot. The Army's swift response successfully prevented the drones from reaching their intended targets.

"There was no specific mention (about planting bombs) and it was a general threat. We are on alert and taking extra precautions. Checking was done and so far nothing suspicious was found," he said in response to a query if they have declared the email a hoax.
A case was being registered. Further investigations were on.

In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court of India has acquitted six individuals accused of murder, citing a lack of credible evidence after the majority of witnesses, including the victim's son, turned hostile. Commenting on the case with "a heavy heart," the court acknowledged the unresolved nature of the crime but emphasized the absence of prosecutable evidence. A bench comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and K Vinod Chandran overturned a Karnataka High Court verdict from September 27, 2023, which had convicted the accused based on limited and questionable testimonies.
The trial court's decision to acquit the defendants was thus reinstated. Justice Chandran, in a detailed 49-page judgment, expressed regret over the trial proceedings, noting the troubling trend of witnesses retracting their statements. Out of 87 witnesses, 71 reversed their previous testimonies, undermining the prosecution's case and spotlighting flaws in the investigative process. "The integrity of the prosecution was severely compromised, as many witnesses disowned prior statements, denied knowledge of key events, or displayed ignorance about critical circumstances," the bench remarked.
Even the victim&rsquo;s young son, who allegedly witnessed his father's murder, could not identify the attackers, further complicating the case. The Supreme Court criticized the Karnataka High Court for erring in its conviction, stating it relied on assumptions based on police testimonies rather than solid legal evidence. The top court stressed the prosecution's failure to prove allegations, given the hostile stance of witnesses during the trial. "Regardless of the reasons behind their hostility, convictions cannot rest solely on investigative officers' testimonies, which are devoid of legal standing as per Sections 161 and 162 of the CrPC and Sections 25 and 26 of the Evidence Act," the judgment clarified.
The ruling directed the immediate release of the accused unless they are detained for other reasons. Justice Chandran emphasized that truth must be established by valid evidence, either direct or circumstantial, forming an indisputable chain linking the accused to the crime beyond a reasonable doubt.
The judgment also underscored the judiciary's challenge to uphold legal standards, even amid inherent frustrations of unresolved criminal cases. This case stemmed from a familial rivalry that culminated in the murder of Ramkrishna, killed while walking with his son on April 28, 2011. The police alleged that Ramkrishna&rsquo;s former employer and six associates executed the crime following his defection to work for a rival brother.

Banerjee referred to Tagore's love for the motherland, which was reflected in his poems, fiction and articles.
"His ideals will dispel the dark clouds and ward off the dark threats," Banerjee said while observing that Tagore symbolised universal brotherhood and humanity through his writings, she said.
She called upon everyone to work to nurture and cherish their mother tongue.
"We should keep the writings and teachings of Tagore throughout the year and not for one day," she said.
Pointing out "every state has its unique culture", she said, "We must protect our language heritage and culture." She said Tagore's works have been enlightening the whole world.
Earlier in a post on X, she quoted a few lines from Tagore's famous collection of poems 'Gitanjali' and paid tribute to the great visionary and colossus literary figure.
Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose, through a post on X, in Bengali, described Tagore as someone who "had guided the entire human race and defined the true spirit of nationalism through his writings".
Thousands of people converged at the Bard's ancestral house at Jorasanko during the day and went around the rooms where the articles used by Tagore were being kept and preserved.
Students of Rabindra Bharati University and teachers sang and recited his poems. Several prominent Rabindra Sangeet exponents also performed on the occasion.
Cultural rallies were taken out by different clubs and organisations in the morning in different areas where the participants donned ethnic wear and sang Tagore's popular renditions.
Many musical soirees were also held in different localities in the evening, performing his songs, poems and plays.

Addressing the meeting regarding the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act and the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) scheme, Singh said, "Every sewer and septic tank worker must receive PPE and safety equipment ahead of the rains." "All such workers must be covered under the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme," the minister said.
The minister instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to expedite the survey in unauthorised colonies through sanitary inspectors.
Departments were also directed to hasten the training and rehabilitation of those involved in manual sewer cleaning and to set up adequate Emergency Response Sanitation Units, it stated.
All district magistrates were ordered to ensure time-bound resolution of pending compensation cases related to sewer and septic tank workers, he said.
Despite a 2014 notification by the then lieutenant governor, the previous governments failed to act, the minister alleged.
"Since March 2025, the current government has held three meetings on the issue and given clear directions to concerned departments," he added.
