1,400 more CISF personnel, structures to be razed: how Union ministry plans to tackle Delhi's T3 rush

As passengers continue to share their travel woes, a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla along with the representatives of the Civil Aviation Ministry, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Bureau of Immigration among others was held in the national capital on Thursday to review measures taken to ease the recent congestion reported at large airports, particularly in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

As per a Press Trust of India report, an additional 1,400 CISF personnel has been sanctioned to secure the expanding terminal areas of the Delhi Airport and also to meet the challenge of its growing passenger traffic by the ministry.

The report also said, new CISF strength will not only be used to render the core duty of the force -- of providing an anti-terrorist and anti-hijack cover at the hypersensitive facility -- but also to meet the challenge of the ever growing passenger footfall, both for domestic and international travel, sources said.

Besides, citing officials, a CNN-News 18 report said, the Delhi International Airport Ltd has been asked to demolish its lounge this week to create more space for security gates. Immigration has also been identified as an area of concern vis-a-vis overcrowding, the report added.

It also pointed at the security check, which are apparently a major bottleneck.
