Did Kiren Rijiju share Maldives' picture while promoting Lakshadweep? See what happened

Amid the ongoing row with Maldives, Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Earth Sciences hopped on the trend of promoting Indian islands of Lakshadweep. However, little did he know that it would backfire. While promoting the Lakshadweep, Rijiju ended up sharing images of Maldives.

Fact-checking website BOOM did a reverse check on the two images that Kiren Rijiju shared and it found that one image was from the Maldives and the other one was from Bora Bora island in French Polynesia.

Boom said that one of the images in which a tourist was seen kayaking was posted on X in 2015 saying it is from the Maldives. THe fact-checking website added that the other picture in which a tourist was snorkelling was uploaded on the stock photo website Alamy on July 10, 2012. In the caption of the image, the location of the image was mentioned as Bora Bora, French Polynesia

However, Kiren Rijiju was not the only one. Actor Ranveer Singh and BJP leaders Tajinder Singh Bagga, Ravi Kishan also shared the images of other islands and claimed that they are from Lakshadweep.
