Karnataka Congress leader offers to resign if proven wrong on 'Hindu-Persian roots' remark

Jarikholi ruled out an apology saying he has said nothing wrong and urged people to read ‘hundreds of records’ that mention Persian origin of the word Hindu.

A day after stoking controversy by linking the word Hindu to the Persian language, Karnakata Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi on Tuesday reiterated his stance claiming that several books mention the Persian roots of the word ‘Hindu.’

Speaking to media, the Congress leader said he would resign as an MLA, if proven wrong.

He referred to several books, websites and Wikipedia to assert his stance and urged people to read ‘hundreds of records’ to see the Persian origin of the word Hindu.

Jarikoholi is facing backlash for saying that the word Hindu has a vulgar meaning in Persian and it had no connection with India.

Meanwhile, Congress has condemned the remarks stressing that the grand old party sees Hinduism as a way of life.

BJP on the other hand accused the party of playing appeasement politics to attract minority voters.
