Indian-origin alleged gangster's released in Canada, sparks concerns

An Indian-origin man and an alleged gangster who was arrested for making extortion calls has been released and the Indo-Canadian community is concerned about it.

The man named Arundeep Thind, 39, was arrested for making extortion threats against South Asian businesses in Canada.

Just after his release, Thind posted a message saying, "Putt bach ke", which means "Child, beware". Following this, Brampton City Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor expressed concern for the Indo-Canadian community.

However, Thind claimed himself innocent saying that police were unfairly portraying him as a high-level gangster.

Thind was charged with extortion related to an alleged incident on January 26. He was released on bail after spending two weeks in jail. He has also contacted the Canadian media to assert that he is not a "criminal".
