India's interests must be paramount: Congress on row over Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has weighed in on the diplomatic standoff between India and Canada over Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing.

Ramesh said that his party has always believed that the country's fight against terrorism has to be uncompromising, especially when terrorism threatens India's sovereignty, unity and integrity.

He added that the country's interests and concerns must be kept paramount at all times.

Meanwhile, India has expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move.

This comes after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau claimed that Indian authorities may be involved in the killing of Nijjar in British Columbia.

New Delhi has rejected Canada's allegations. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said the allegations of India's involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated.
