In an inclusive move, the Supreme Court on September 29 directed their registry to appoint an interpreter for deaf lawyer Sarah Sunny to argue her case. This order was passed by Registrar Vivek Saxena.

In the order, it was mentioned, "There is a request for an appointment of a sign-language interpreter. The Registry will take steps for appointing an interpreter as requested by the advocate for appellants."

As this decision came to light, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud weighed in on this and said "It took us so long to make this happen. This should have happened long ago."

Earlier, Sunny appeared before the court to argue her case on September 22 and at that time, she brought her own Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpreter, Saurav Roychowdhury.
