Hanuman Jayanti clashes: violence in multiple cities; 23 held in Jahangirpuri case

23 arrests, including that of 'main conspirators', have been made so far in the violence that took place in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Hanuman Jayanti, as per a report by Hindustan Times.

Of the 23 arrested, two are reported to be juveniles. The situation in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri remained tense but under control.

Clashes broke out between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday in which eight police personnel and one civilian were injured.

Incidents of stone-pelting and vehicles being set on fire were reported.

Meanwhile, reports of similar incidents also surfaced from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttarakhand.

20 people have been detained from Andhra's Kurnool district. 15 people were reportedly injured after clashes broke out during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Holagunda town.

In Karnataka's Hubballi, around 40 people were taken into custody and section 144 was imposed after protestors gheraoed and pelted stones outside a police station. The protestors were angry over police inaction on a social media post.

Meanwhile, 9 people were arrested in connection with allegations of stone-pelting and shouting slogans during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Haridwar.
