Gurugram Faces Major Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions After Heavy Rainfall

Gurugram—Intermittent overnight rain wreaked havoc in Gurugram, paralyzing the city on Thursday as roads and residential areas were submerged, leaving traffic severely congested. The district administration reported 133 mm of rainfall in Gurugram and 122 mm in Wazirabad tehsil till 8:30 am.

The torrential rains, which commenced on Wednesday evening, caused significant waterlogging on the Narsinghpur section of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and inundated areas near Basai and Golf Course Extension Road. Additional flooding was seen on roads near Rajiv Chowk, Sheetla Mata road, Sadar Bazaar, Bus Adda road, and surrounding colonies.

Reports also indicated waterlogging at Basai Chowk, Khandsa, Sanjay Gram Road, Sohna Road, Subhash Chowk, and various sectors including 30, 31, 40, 45, 47, 51, 22, 23, 4, 5, 12, 13, and 48.

These conditions resulted in massive traffic jams throughout the city. The Gurugram traffic police cautioned commuters about slow-moving traffic, noting, "Waterlogging has been reported at many places across Gurugram due to heavy rain since last night. Traffic jams with movement disruption may take more than usual time to commute."

A long 7 to 8-km queue of vehicles was reported on National Highway 48 from Narsinghpur to Rajokri in Delhi by Wednesday night. At Subhash Chowk, approximately 2.5 feet of water accumulated, causing traffic to stall until 2 am on Thursday.

Frustrated residents took to social media to highlight the poor condition of roads and called for accountability from Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials.

In response, the MCG stated in a post on X, "Required machinery is operational to ensure the discharge of storm water. Drains are running at full capacity due to high rainfall."
