Bold ATM Theft Thwarted by Technical Failure in Maharashtra

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aug 5 (PTI) reports that an audacious attempt to steal an ATM machine in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city was thwarted as thieves were unable to finish their mission. Four culprits tried to remove an ATM using an SUV but ultimately fled the scene empty-handed, per official police accounts. The incident unfolded on Monday in the pre-dawn hours between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. at the Shahnoorwadi branch of State Bank of India, the nation's leading bank.

The quartet arrived in a sports utility vehicle and attempted to yank the ATM away by securing it with a yellow belt tied to their vehicle. Despite their efforts, the ATM refused to budge, a police officer disclosed. Not deterred, the thieves proceeded to vandalize the CCTV cameras within the ATM cabin and made unsuccessful attempts to pry open the cash machine with a screwdriver before ultimately retreating.

The case was brought to light when the bank's branch manager lodged a formal complaint. Consequently, the Jawaharnagar police station registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, addressing charges of theft, mischief, and collective intent in criminal activity.
