Election Commission rejects AAP’s allegations, calls out ‘pressure tactics’ ahead of Delhi Polls

As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accuses the Election Commission (EC) of bias in favor of the BJP, the poll panel on Tuesday dismissed the claims, asserting that it is a three-member body and not a single-person entity.

With just a day left before the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, the Election Commission hit back at AAP's allegations, stating that the poll panel operates collectively and not under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar alone.

  • AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, accused the EC of shielding BJP’s violations and claimed that Kumar was eyeing a post-retirement position, a charge the EC refuted.
  • The poll body condemned "repeated deliberate pressure tactics" aimed at maligning its credibility, emphasizing its decision to exercise constitutional restraint despite the attacks.
  • Kumar, along with election commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, reiterated the EC’s impartiality, maintaining that it would not be swayed by political outbursts.

As Delhi votes on February 5, the battle intensifies between AAP, seeking a third consecutive term, and BJP, aiming for a comeback.
