127, 299, 325: Delhi's Covid daily tally rises again; positivity rate 2.39% from 0.5% in a week

After a respite of a few weeks, the threat of Covid seems to be looming again on the horizon.

On April 14, New Delhi reported 325 new cases recorded over the previous 24 hours. This was reportedly the highest spike in cases in 40 days.

Meanwhile the positivity rate jumped from 0.5% to 2.39% in a week, as per reports.

The increase in cases has prompted the authorities to call a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, or DDMA, on April 20. It is chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, and includes Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Health Minister Satyendar Jain among other senior officials.

Around two weeks ago, the rule of imposition of a fine for not wearing a mask in public was lifted in Delhi. Covid restrictions have been lifted for the first time in two years in many parts of India.

But the emergence of new variants like the XE have raised the spectre of a new wave.
