For the first time since the formation of Mizoram, a newly formed political party Zoram People&rsquo;s Movement (ZPM) has won the Assembly elections.
ZPM secured 27 seats out of 40 seats in the state, while the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) secured 10, BJP won 2 and the Congress secured only 1 seat.
The newly recognised party ZPM's CM face and Ex-Congress MP, Lalduhoma who contested from Sercchip won by 2,982 votes. As per Election Commissions report, ZPM won in &nbsp;Chalfilh, Tawi, Aizawl North-I, Aizawl North-II, Aizawl North-III, Aizawl East I, Aizawl East II, Aizawl West-I, Aizawl West-II, Aizawl West-III, Aizawl South-I, Aizawl South-II, Aizawl South-III, Lengteng, Tuichang, Champhai North, Champai South, Tuikum, Hrangturzo, South Tuipui, Lunglei North, Lunglei East, Lunglei West, Lunglei South, Lawngtlai East and Serchhip seats.
The MNF won in Hachhek, Mamik, Tuirial, Serlui, Tuivawl, East Tuipui, West Tuipui, Thorang and Tuichawng seats and was leading in one.
The prominent faces that lost their elections include, the incumbent CM and MNF chief Zoramthanga, who lost against ZPM's Lalthansanga by 2101 votes. Deputy Chief Minister and MNF candidate Tawnluia who lost to ZPM candidate in Tuichang, Health Minister and MNF candidate R.Lalthangliana who lost to ZPM's Jeje Lalpekhlua in South Tuipui and Rural Development Minister Laruatkima who lost to ZPM nominee Lalnghinglova Hmar in Aizawl West II, as per the report.

The arrival of cyclone Michaung has heavily affected several parts of Tamil Nadu. An incident has come to light from Chennai's East Coastal Road on Monday where two people died and one was critically injured as a newly constructed wall collapsed.&nbsp;
According to police, there was heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and due to that, a newly constructed wall collapsed in the Kanathur area, East Coastal Road.&nbsp;
Police said that the deceased have been identified as Shek Afraj and MD Tofik from Jharkhand. Police also said that further investigation into the matter is underway.&nbsp;
Moreover, the Chennai Airport said that the Airfield is closed for arrival operation till 11.30 pm on Monday. Chennai Regional Metrology Director, Balachandran talked about cyclone Michaung and said that it lies about 100 km from East-North East of Chennai and moved at a speed of 10km/hr in the last 6 hours.&nbsp;
Other than this, suburban train services in all the Chennai Suburban sections were temporarily suspended on Monday due to heavy rains and waterlogging.&nbsp;

ED arrests 2 Ashoka University co-founders in alleged bank fraud case

Gupta brothers have been arrested in an alleged bank fraud case linked to money laundering.&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate has arrested two co-founders of Ashok University based in Sonipat.&nbsp; Vineet Gupta and Pranav Gupta are also promoters of Chandigarh-based pharma company Parabolic Drugs and the arrest along with the chattered accountant has been made in a money-laundering probe linked to an alleged bank fraud.
The central agency continued with its searches against the group for the second day, including at the Ashoka University's corporate and registered offices in Delhi and campus in Haryana's Sonepat. The Guptas are the co-founders of Ashoka University but had stepped down from their posts in 2022 after the CBI registered a case against them in 2021.

But the question remains how Lalduhoma, who is also a former Congress MP, created history by becoming the leader of the first regional outfit in the state to storm to power.&nbsp; Lalduhoma served in the security of the former PM Indira Gandhi, and he resigned from the IPS to join the Congress.&nbsp; Reportedly, Lalduhoma has played a pivotal part in finalizing a peace deal with a Mizo militant faction. Lalduhoma flew to Londed to persuade Mizo militant faction leader for peace talks with ex-militant leader turned politician Zoramthanga and the deal was finally signed in WRITE YEAR with Indira Gandhi. &nbsp; Lalduhoma is being credited as the key player in creating the Mizoram state. In 1984, he won the Lok Sabha seat on Congress ticket, however, due to the rift with a state Congress leadership he was disqualified for not following the whip. And so, he became the first ever MP to be disqualified under anti-defection law in 1988. Lalduhoma was heading ZPM (a collation of many small regional parties) which was not registered at that time and fought the 2018 elections from Aizawl West-I and Sechhip as an independent candidate and defeated senior Congress candidate and incumbent CM Thanhawla. In 2020, Lalduhoma was disqualified as MLA on technical grounds to defect ZPM.&nbsp;

Over 13,600 reserved category students dropped out from central universities, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) over the last five years, Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.
Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar shared the statistics in a written reply to a query by BSP member in Lok Sabha Ritesh Pandey.
In the case of Central Universities (CUs), Sarkar said that as many as 4596 OBC, 2424 SC, and 2622 ST students dropped out in the last five years.
In IITs, 2066 OBCs, 1068 SC and 408 ST students dropped out. In IIMs, the figure remained at 163, 188, and 91 for OBC, SC and ST students, respectively.
"In the higher education sector, students have multiple options and they choose to migrate across institutions and from one course/programme to another in the same institution.
"The migration/withdrawal, if any, is mainly on account of securing seats by the students in other departments or institutions of their choice or on any personal ground," he said.
The minister informed that National Law Universities (NLUs) have been established under the Acts enacted by the respective state legislatures and as such they are the state Universities.
"No such data on dropout students of NLUs is maintained by the central government," he said.
Responding further to the query on what the government is doing to address the issue, Sarkar said that the government has taken various steps like fee reduction, the establishment of more institutes, scholarships, and priority access to national-level scholarships to aid the students with poor financial backgrounds to pursue their education.
"For the welfare of SC and ST students, schemes like 'waiver of tuition fees in IITs&rsquo;, grant of national scholarships under Central Sector Scheme, scholarships in Institutes etc. are also there,&rdquo; he said.

US Principal Deputy NSA meets External Affairs Minister Jaishankar

In the backdrop of the US accusing an Indian citizen of working on a plot to kill a Sikh separatist, reportedly Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, S Jaishankar met an American NSA official for the first time.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met US Principal Deputy NSA Jon Finer and discussed various bilateral and global issues, in the first publicly announced meeting with an American security official after the US's charges relating to a thwarted plot to kill a Sikh separatist on its soil.
The meeting between Jaishankar and Finer here came days after American prosecutors linked an Indian official to a man charged with conspiring to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
It is understood that the issue figured in the meeting though there is no official confirmation of it.
"Good to meet Principal Deputy NSA of the US Jon Finer this afternoon. Useful exchange of views on the global situation. Discussed taking our bilateral cooperation forward," Jaishankar said on 'X'.
India on November 30 described as a "matter of concern" the US linking the Indian official to a man charged with conspiring to kill Pannun, and asserted that follow up action will be taken based on findings of an inquiry panel investigating the allegations.
India has already constituted a probe team to investigate allegations relating to the foiled plot.
On November 29, US federal prosecutors charged Nikhil Gupta, 52, of working with an Indian government employee in the foiled plot to kill Pannun. The US prosecutors informed a Manhattan court that authorities in the Czech Republic arrested and detained Gupta.
Pannun, a leader of the so-called 'Sikhs for Justice', is wanted by Indian probe agencies on various terror charges.
The Financial Times, citing unnamed sources, first reported last month that US authorities foiled a plot to assassinate Pannun, and issued a warning to the Indian government over concerns it was involved in the plot.
The Washington Post on November 29 said the Biden administration was so concerned after discovering the plot that it sent CIA Director William J Burns and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines to India in August and October respectively to demand investigation and hold those responsible to account.
Last week, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed as "good and appropriate" India's decision to announce a high-level probe into the allegations.
"The government (of India) announced today that it was conducting an investigation, and that's good and appropriate, and we look forward to seeing the results," he told reporters in Tel Aviv
