Arvind Kejriwal urges PM Modi to ban loan waivers for billionaires ahead of Delhi Polls

Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce a nationwide law prohibiting the waiver of loans granted to billionaires.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Kejriwal accused the central government of favoring the wealthy by writing off corporate loans worth thousands of crores while burdening ordinary citizens with high taxes.

"Common people are paying half their salaries in taxes, while loans of the rich are being waived. Why doesn't the government provide similar relief for home loans or car loans of ordinary citizens?" he questioned.

Kejriwal argued that stopping loan waivers for billionaires could enable the government to significantly reduce income tax and GST rates, double the taxable income threshold, and remove GST on essential goods. "This is a massive scandal that needs to end," he said, adding that such a move would benefit millions of taxpayers across the country.

The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8. Kejriwal is seeking a third consecutive term, following AAP’s landslide victory in 2020, when the party won 62 of Delhi’s 70 seats.

As the campaigning intensifies, Kejriwal’s proposal has become a key talking point, highlighting his focus on economic issues and promises to prioritize the needs of the common citizen.
