Delhi CM Atishi slams Election Commission over MCC case, BJP-AAP clash escalates ahead of polls

As the Delhi Assembly election nears, Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi has accused the Election Commission of bias after being charged for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The political tussle intensified with allegations against BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s son, police action, and strong reactions from AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Tuesday criticized the Election Commission (EC) after she was booked for allegedly violating the MCC in the final hours before the Delhi Assembly election silence period.

  • Atishi accused BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s son, Manish Bidhuri, of election interference and claimed that her complaint to the EC and Delhi Police resulted in a case against her instead.

  • AAP members Ashmit and Sagar Mehta were booked for allegedly assaulting a police constable, while the police also registered a case against Manish Bidhuri for MCC violations.
  • Arvind Kejriwal slammed the EC, alleging hooliganism and bias against AAP while accusing the authorities of shielding BJP workers and facilitating election malpractice.

With just 48 hours left before polling day, the pre-election silence period is in effect, where campaign-related activities are legally restricted. However, the political tension between AAP and BJP continues to escalate, raising concerns over fair election proceedings in Delhi.
