Coal smuggling case: ED summons Bengal law minister in-charge of TMC's 'Mission Tripura'

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned West Bengal Law Minister Moloy Ghatak to Delhi on 14th September in an alleged coal smuggling case.

The Trinamool leader had earlier called the summons ludicrous and blatantly politically motivated. Moloy Ghatak said that the case had been ongoing for several years and the probe agency had found a link to him out of the blue.

The Bengal cabinet minister added that the ED’s probe was timely and the purpose was to ‘disturb and distract him’ as he had been assigned to scale up TMC’s presence in Tripura.

ED has also sent a fresh summon to TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for questioning on September 21 in the same case.

Banerjee and Ghatak aren't the only senior leaders being probed. TMC leader Partha Chatterjee also received a knock on the door from CBI in connection with I-Core chit fund scam.

TMC's Sukhendu Sekhar Ray called the raid at Chaterjee's office another case of political vendetta by the BJP against the Mamata Banerjee government.
