BJP’s Kiran Choudhry slams AAP for ‘Turning Delhi into a slum,’ questions Yamuna cleanup funds

Rajya Sabha's debate sees AAP criticized for poor governance, fiscal mismanagement, and unfulfilled promises in Delhi.

BJP’s Kiran Choudhry slams AAP for ‘Turning Delhi into a slum,’ questions Yamuna cleanup funds

Rajya Sabha debate sees sharp criticism of AAP’s governance in Delhi, accusations of neglecting development, mismanaging Yamuna cleanup funds, and making baseless allegations.

BJP Rajya Sabha member Kiran Choudhry launched a fierce attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, accusing it of turning the national capital into a "dirty slum" while shifting blame onto others for its failures.

AAP Losing Public Trust, Says Choudhry
Speaking during the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Choudhry asserted that AAP has lost the trust of Delhi’s people due to its failure in governance.

Without directly naming former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, she criticized AAP leaders for their rhetoric during the Delhi Assembly election campaign, where they allegedly used terms like:
"Water terrorism"
"Genocide"
"Poison in Yamuna"
Comparing Delhi’s water crisis to Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings

She claimed that AAP leaders "have lost their senses" and are resorting to extreme statements because they realize the public is fed up with them after 10 years of misgovernance.

Delhi’s Infrastructure Has Collapsed
Choudhry alleged that AAP has failed to fulfill its promises and neglected development, leaving Delhi in a worse condition than ever before.

"Delhi is no longer a world-class city. It has turned into a slum, with dirty drainage, overflowing garbage dumps, clogged sewers, and stinking, polluted drinking water," she stated.

She challenged AAP leaders to step out of Lutyens’ Delhi and visit Delhi’s interior streets, outskirts, and colonies to see the real condition of the city.

"If they do, they will hang their heads in shame," she declared.

₹6,000 Crore Yamuna Cleanup Fund Misused?
Targeting AAP’s claims of cleaning the Yamuna River, Choudhry called it a "cesspool of filth and toxic waste" and demanded accountability for the ₹6,000 crore allocated for its cleanup.

"Where has this money gone? The people of Delhi deserve answers," she asked.

She further accused AAP of failing to manage Delhi’s water supply, claiming that the city suffers from the highest loss of processed water—40-50%—due to poor infrastructure and mismanagement.

BJP’s Neeraj Shekhar Joins Criticism
Backing Choudhry’s statements, BJP MP Neeraj Shekhar also took a swipe at AAP’s governance, questioning the credibility of its claims about Haryana supplying "poisonous water" to Delhi.

He challenged AAP to verify whether Haryana provides clean water through an uninterrupted canal network and accused them of peddling misinformation.

Shekhar also indirectly criticized Arvind Kejriwal, suggesting he focus on his own political future instead of making baseless allegations against the Election Commission.

Political Tensions Rise Ahead of Delhi Elections
With Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, and counting on February 8, BJP and AAP are locked in a heated battle.

As AAP defends its governance record, BJP continues to challenge its claims on education, healthcare, and infrastructure, making the upcoming polls a high-stakes contest for control of the national capital.
