Atishi accuses BJP of water sabotage ahead of Delhi assembly polls, calls it "dirty politics"

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday accused the BJP of resorting to "unfair tactics" out of desperation, as she predicted a "historic loss" for the saffron party in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

At a press conference, Atishi alleged that the BJP is deliberately disrupting Delhi's water supply to sway public opinion. She claimed that Haryana is intentionally releasing industrial waste into the Yamuna River, causing severe water contamination and jeopardising the health of Delhiites.

"The BJP is staring at a historic defeat in the national capital. In its bewilderment, it has stooped to tactics like stopping the water supply. Haryana is draining industrial waste into the Yamuna to harm Delhi’s people and manipulate election outcomes," she stated.

Atishi highlighted that ammonia levels in the Yamuna have surged to an unprecedented 7.2 ppm, disrupting the operation of water treatment plants and creating a severe water crisis in many areas of Delhi.

AAP leader and Delhi Assembly candidate Arvind Kejriwal echoed the allegations in a strongly worded post on X. "There is no bigger sin than making people go thirsty. BJP workers in Haryana are mixing poison in the water sent to Delhi. This contaminated water cannot even be cleaned in water treatment plants, forcing us to halt water supplies in some areas for safety," Kejriwal wrote in Hindi.

He further alleged that the BJP’s actions are endangering public health and amount to "mass murder." "The AAP will ensure this does not happen," he asserted.

Atishi added that she, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has sought an urgent meeting with the Election Commission to highlight what they claim are "unfair practices" by the BJP.

With Delhi set to vote on February 5 and results to be declared on February 8, the election battle has intensified, with both sides trading barbs and escalating tensions in the capital’s political landscape.
