Andhra train accident: 13 dead so far, 33 trains cancelled

At least 13 people died and over 50 injured after two trains collided in Andhra Pradesh' Vizianagaram district on Sunday evening.

Superintendent of Police M Deepika said 7 people out of the deceased have been identified.

Biswajit Sahu, CPRO, East Coast Railway, told news agency ANI that the rescue work has been completed and officials are now working on track restoration.

Sahu said that the Visakhapatnam-Palasa train was waiting for a signal when Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train rammed into it from behind. The Rayagada train overshot the signal leading to the accident and the officials suspect 'human error'.

NDTV has reported that the driver of the Rayagada train was killed in the accident

'A total of 33 trains have been cancelled, 22 trains have been diverted and 11 trains are partially cancelled,' according to Biswajit Sahu.
