Al Jazeera calls CAA 'anti-Muslim', PIB Fact Check says claim 'misleading'

As soon as the Indian government notified the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA, Qatar-based international news organisation Al Jazeera called the law 'anti-Muslim'.

Following this, the Press Information Bureau's fact-checking wing called the claim by Al Jazeera misleading.

Taking to social media platform X, the PIB said that Al Jazeera is spreading misinformation. It said that the CAA will not take away citizenship of any Indian citizen irrespective of religion and is not against any community.

"It's an enabling law only to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries - Afghanistan, Pakistan & Bangladesh," added the PIB.

The controversial law has been opposed by various Opposition parties in India, including Congress, DMK and TMC.
