₹10,000 fine for Twitter blue tick case: CBI ex-chief pulled up by Delhi High Court for repeated pleas

In an unusual case, a former interim chief of the CBI was fined Rs 10,000. This after he repeatedly approached courts to get a blue tick on Twitter.

The penalty on retired IPS officer M Nageswara Rao was imposed by the Delhi High Court on May 17. Rao had filed a petition against Twitter's decision to remove the blue tick from his account. The blue tick is a sign that the account is verified.

In April 2022, the High Court had asked Rao to re-apply for the verified status. On May 17, the court asked the former IPS officer why he had filed another petition so soon.

In the latest petition, Rao had accused Twitter of violating various Constitutional provisions, including impairing his right to free speech. The blue tick was removed from the former CBI interim director's account in March 2022.
