Chennai, July 15 (PTI) - Filmmaker Pa Ranjith has paid an emotional tribute to the seasoned stunt artist S M Raju, who tragically passed away on the set of the director's upcoming film, "Vettuvam".

The 52-year-old, fondly known as Mohan Raj, was performing a high-octane stunt involving an SUV in Nagapattinam on July 13 when he unexpectedly collapsed. Despite the swift actions of his colleagues, who rushed him to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead upon arrival.

Pa Ranjith, known for his work on "Thangalaan", expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt statement released on his official X account, sharing that the loss of Mohan Raj Anna has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues.

"Our hearts are broken for his wife, children, and all who knew him as both a colleague and a friend."

Ranjith recounted the day's events, noting that it had begun like any other involving dangerous stunt work, with meticulous planning, adherence to safety protocols, and prayers. He emphasized how deeply respected Mohan Raj Anna was for his expertise in stunt performance and planning.

"We relied on the expertise of our Stunt Director Dilip Subbarayan and followed every protocol to ensure safety. Yet, despite our preparations, we lost a man of unparalleled skill and achievement," Ranjith lamented.

The director described Raju's passing as "devastating" and paid tribute to him as a cherished husband, father, and an exceptional stunt artist. Mohan Raj Anna will be remembered for his dedication to excellence, Ranjith added, ensuring that his legacy will endure in the memories of those who admired and respected him.
