Param Kaur: Rising Star in Punjabi Music as Lady Moosewala

Chandigarh, Sep 30 (PTI) At the young age of 19, Paramjeet Kaur, popularly known as Param, has rapidly gained popularity in the Punjabi music scene with her hit track "That Girl," which amassed over 3.5 million views in just one week after its release.

Her latest song has been consistently gaining traction, with many drawing parallels between her singing style and that of the late Sidhu Moosewala, who was fatally shot in 2022, earning her the moniker "Lady Moosewala." The song's production was helmed by UK-based music producer Manni Sandhu, who traveled specifically to India for the project.

Sandhu took to Instagram on Tuesday to reminisce about the recording process, noting, "The craziest thing is we recorded this track in no expensive studio. There was no acoustic treatment. It was a random Airbnb. You could hear cars outside, people shouting but the vocals were coming out so crisp."

He continued, "Within 10 minutes, we already had the vibe of the song down. So I took the vocals back to my studio, added all the final touches, and the song was pretty much done. For the music video, we linked up with our good friends Tru Makers. We gave them the vision we had for the video, and they took the idea and absolutely smashed it. It is getting so much love."

Param, from Duneke village in Punjab's Moga district, comes from a humble background as her mother works as a house help and her father is a daily-wager.

In a previous social media video, Param shared her inspiration to start singing, explaining, "In college, my friends were writing and singing songs and then after seeing them, I thought I should also do this."

Currently, Param is a student at DM College in Moga.
