Zubeen Garg's Finale: 'Roi Roi Binale' Set for Grand Release in Assam

Guwahati, Oct 30 (PTI) – The much-anticipated release of Zubeen Garg's final film, 'Roi Roi Binale', is set to hit all theaters across Assam this Friday. With tickets for all shows over the next week already sold out, expectations are high for this musical endeavor to break previous records and set new benchmarks for Assamese cinema.

Emotional Anticipation and Expanded Screenings

The overwhelming emotional response to the film's release has prompted several exhibitors to increase the number of screenings. Some theaters will host up to seven shows a day, commencing as early as 4:45 a.m., with the final show stretching till 2:30 a.m. In 'Roi Roi Binale', Zubeen Garg, in the role of a blind musician, showcases not only his acting prowess but also his musical talent with 11 self-composed songs.

The narrative poignantly delves into the struggles of a musician's life, capturing audiences' attention with its gripping trailer, which eerily foreshadows Garg's own mysterious demise in Singapore. Shortly after the trailer's release, social media was abuzz with fans speculating whether Garg had a premonition about his end.

The Film's Profound Message

Known for his unabashed social-leftist ideals, Garg's persona shines through in this 1:54-minute clip, insisting on the importance of standing with the masses. Drawing inspiration from political and cultural icons such as Che Guevara, Charlie Chaplin, and Bishnu Prasad Rava, Garg declared his commitment to art and social justice. 'Roi Roi Binale', an extension of his famous 90s song, was often described by Garg as his darkest lyrical creation.

As both producer alongside his wife, Garima, and Shyamantak Gautam, Garg has poured his soul into this 146-minute film directed by Rajesh Bhuyan. Released in the past weeks, the film's trailer, along with its title track and select songs, have amassed over one crore views on YouTube.

Unprecedented Demand for Assamese Cinema

"The launch of Zubeen Garg's final film is set to be grand," stated Sourav Dutta, General Manager (Sales and Distribution) at UFO Moviez India. The release spans 91 screens across the Northeast and nearly 90 more throughout the country. No Assamese film has ever achieved such an expansive release, with existing reservations booked, and demand skyrocketing.

Dutta revealed that 14 additional screens are being added as requests pour in from places where Assamese cinema has never ventured before. These include cities such as Lucknow, Indore, Patna, and more. Even places like Nepal have shown interest, although plans there remain undecided. The film, provided by leading content distributors like UFO, Cube, and KSS, is expected to enjoy an enduring presence in the Northeast for at least two months.

The Community's Support and Government's Recognition

Distributor Siddharth Goenka, of Goenka Enterprises, emphasized the unprecedented scale and interest in 'Roi Roi Binale'. With nearly 600 daily shows in Assam alone, the momentum is palpable. Despite fresh demands from newer regions, capacity remains stretched. To ensure a peaceful viewership, Assam Police plan to station personnel at theaters for crowd management.

Further recognizing Garg's contribution, the Assam cabinet pledged to donate the state's GST share from the film's earnings to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation, a philanthropic initiative founded by Garg. This gesture underscores the profound impact of Zubeen Garg's artistic legacy on the Assamese community.
