Chhattisgarh's BJP government declares the film "Balidani Raja Guru Balakdas" tax-free to promote its inspiring narrative of courage and cultural heritage, featuring Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb.

Chhattisgarh Declares Film on Satnami Guru Balakdas Tax-Free

Raipur, Sep 30 (PTI) – The Chhattisgarh BJP government has made the newly released film "Balidani Raja Guru Balakdas," which showcases the life of the revered Satnami sect guru Raja Guru Balakdas, tax-free in the state.

Chhattisgarh cabinet minister Guru Khushwant Saheb, a member of the Satnami sect, appears in the film, adding a layer of authenticity and connection to the production.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced the tax-free status of the film on Monday night following a screening at a local multiplex, according to an official statement.

"It is a very good film, and we express our gratitude to its producer," Sai told reporters. "The lives of Raja Guru Balakdas ji and Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh ji, a significant 1857 freedom struggle contributor, are beautifully depicted in the movie."

Sai emphasized, "The two were close friends who battled against injustice, British colonial forces, and the flaws of the period's social system. The movie is truly inspirational and deserving of a tax-free status across the state."

The Chief Minister described the film as a narrative of "extraordinary courage and valor," highlighting Guru Balakdas's significant efforts against British and Pindari atrocities, his societal unification endeavours, advocacy for education, and his vital role in India’s fight for independence.

By exempting the film from taxes, the government aims to ensure that more viewers can engage with this inspiring story, fostering a deeper connection to their history and heritage, he explained.

Chhattisgarh is historically known as a land of martyrs and saints, and films of this nature celebrate the region's contributions to the struggle for freedom, its vibrant culture, social unity, and resistance against colonial oppression, according to CM Sai.

The Chief Minister praised the diligence of local filmmakers, actors, and crew members for their contributions to Chhattisgarhi cinema, noting their success in capturing and enchanting audiences.

The upcoming Film City project promises to offer modern facilities, expand opportunities, and provide a national platform to promote Chhattisgarhi cinema, thereby amplifying local talent and cementing the state’s cultural identity.

During the film screening, State Assembly Speaker Raman Singh and Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb were present alongside the Chief Minister.

Historically, Guru Balakdas (1805-1860) was esteemed as both a spiritual and social leader, the successor of Satnam Panth founder and medieval social reformer Baba Guru Ghasidas.

The influential Satnami community, representing Chhattisgarh's largest Scheduled Castes cluster, holds significant sociopolitical importance.

The current 14-member state cabinet includes two ministers from the SC community.
