Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan celebrated his 81st birthday on October 11 and on his special day, his son-actor Abhishek Bachchan took to social media to extend his best wishes.

Sharing a picture with Big B, Abhishek called him his 'idol, hero, inspiration and best friend'.

‘My idol, my hero, my inspiration and my best friend! Happy 81st birthday, Pa. Love you and always got your back,’ Abhishek wrote. He chose a photo where Amitabh Bachchan is seated and he stands by his side, twinning in black.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan's longtime co-star Shah Rukh Khan shared a still from their recent commercial and penned a sweet note.

SRK said that breathing the same air as Big B for the last 30 years has been a blessing. He further asked Amitabh Bachchan to keep running and inspiring us.

SRK wrote, ‘Tough runs don’t last….tough runners do. And Sir you are the toughest of them all. Last 30 yrs just being around u and breathing the same air as you….has been a blessing. Wish u the best on your birthday….keep running & inspiring us. Sir and that Gym of yours… is unbelievable. Love u!’

Previously, Shah Rukh and Amitabh have most famously featured in three blockbusters: Aditya Chopra's 2000 romantic film ‘Mohabbatein’, Karan Johar's 2001 family drama ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, and Karan's 2006 romantic film ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’.

Amitabh Bachchan celebrated his birthday with his family and also greeted fans gathered outside his house. The actor waved at fans as they cheered for him and wished him on his special day.

Fans, dressed as the actor’s iconic characters such as Coolie, Shahenshah and more held up happy birthday placards. They also sported his signature French-cute beard and salt and pepper hair. The video is going viral on the internet.

On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan will soon be in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ with Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
