Nirav Modi's latest attempt to stop extradition: seeks permission to file appeal in UK Supreme Court

Nirav Modi appears to be pulling out all stops to prevent his extradition from UK to India for fraud and money laundering cases.

Now, the fugitive diamond merchant has filed an application in the High Court in London for permission to appeal against his extradition order by approaching the Supreme Court.

Recently, a two-judge High Court bench ruled against Nirav Modi after he claimed risk of suicide. The court had said that the risk was not such that it would be either unjust or oppressive to extradite him to India.

Subsequently, Nirav had two weeks to file an appeal on the grounds of a point of law of general public importance. Experts say this is rarely held up by courts.

However, his extradition is still uncertain as Nirav has other options available, including approaching the European Court of Human Rights.

The diamantaire is currently lodged at the Wandsworth Prison in London.
