Amid the placements season at IITs across the country, food delivery platform Zomato made an eye-popping job offer of Rs 1.6 Crore to an IIT Delhi student, only to withdraw it later.

An IIT Delhi student posted in X (formerly Twitter), that "Zomato came to the campus, offered 1.6 cr salary, got the hype, and left".

Nitizens React

An MSC student in IIT Delhi, Hrithik Talwar posted in X (formerly Twitter), that Zomato got the hype and left. This post garnered several replies from netizens. While some said that this is a marketing move by Zomato, some others felt that it could have been a typing error.

"Wasn't it supposed to be 16L and it got mistyped as 1.6 crore bruh," one user said

Rs 1.6 crore job offer

Before the onset of placement season that usually starts in December, companies announce the roles they would be hiring for so students can apply for the openings and sit for interviews during the placement.

Food delivery platform Zomato had planned to hire an Algorithms Engineer from IIT Delhi. The placements committee's circular revealed that Zomato was offering Rs 1.6 crore salary for the freshers. The role was for Zomato’s grocery delivery subsidiary Blinkit and the major part of the salary was in the form of Restricted Stock Unit.

Rs 60 lakh was offered as gross pay and Rs 1 crore in Restricted Stock Units. However, Zomato withdrew this announcement.
