Twitter has reportedly received a 'last warning' from the Indian government to comply with IT rules or face severe consequences.

The Economic Times reports that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) highlighted that Twitter India “repeated failed to act on the content take-down notices sent.' As per reports the govt had issued notices on June 6 and June 9 to take down content, which the microblogging site did not comply with.

On June 27 another stern “one last opportunity” notice has been sent to Twitter's compliance officer as per ET. The government has warned Twitter that it will lose its intermediary status if it does not comply with the country’s IT rules giving a deadline of July 4.
