Tesla recalls nearly 2 lakh 'Full Self-Driving' vehicles due to a software glitch

Tesla is recalling nearly 2 lakh full self-driving vehicles due to a software glitch which causes the backup camera in the vehicle to go dark. This poses a danger for the vehicles while taking reverse as the backup camera may not work

Recalled vehicles

Models Y, S and X from the 2023 model year are recalled. All are equipped with “Full Self-Driving” computer 4.0 and run software version 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6 or 2023.44.100.

As per documents posted by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company had said that the software instability may prevent the camera image from showing images while the Teslas are in reverse. The safety agency says that this can increase the risk of a crash.

Tesla further says in the documents that the firm is not aware of any crashes or injuries and that the problem is fixed with an online software update. Owners of the Tesla vehicles will be notified by letter, starting March 22.

As per the document, Tesla started receiving complaints in late December and decided to recall the vehicles on January 12. As of January 22, the company had 81 warranty claims potentially related to the problem.

Teslas cannot drive themselves despite having a “Full Self-Driving” system, and human drivers have to be ready to intervene at all times.
