Juggling the management of multiple rental properties presents a formidable task for property owners. From ensuring timely rent payments to keeping track of essential documentation, the responsibilities can become overwhelming.

To talk more on efforts to bridge the gap between tenants and property owners and PropTech industry, Avni Raja from Editorji engaged with Sunny Garg, the CEO and Co-founder of Crib, a startup that offers a comprehensive property solution to both - tenants and owners for our 20th episode of Startup to Scaleup show.

What does Crib do?
Crib, founded in 2022, is a PropTech platform that serves as a bridge between landlords and tenants. For landlords, Crib offers solutions such as tenant onboarding/offboarding, rent collection, complaint management, and inventory management. Meanwhile, tenants benefit from services like rent payment and document submission.

Crib's presence
Operating across 10+ cities including Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, Crib facilitates smoother property management processes for both landlords and tenants.

Crib's revenue model
Speaking about the company's revenue model, Garg said it primarily involves charging landlords a subscription fee. He further added that the company is planning to introduce new products to further diversify its revenue streams.

How crib targets customers?
To target customers, Garg mentioned that Crib relies heavily on referrals, with many new sign-ups originating from recommendations. ''Moreover, the company utilizes digital advertising and maintains a comprehensive database of landlords to enhance its outreach efforts'' Garg added.

PropTech landscape in India
Talking about PropTech industry in India, Garg emphasized that PropTech represents the future of the industry, highlighting its vast market potential. He expressed confidence in the opportunities within the sector, suggesting that competition should not be a concern. According to Garg, the evolving PropTech space offers ample room for innovation and growth, positioning it as a promising frontier for entrepreneurs and investors alike.

Challenges faced by PropTech sector
While addressing the challenges faced by Crib, Garg shed light on the hurdles encountered in fundraising within the PropTech sector. Additionally, he identified the issue of black money within PropTech as a significant challenge, reflecting the broader complexities and regulatory concerns present in the real estate technology space.
