Pandora Papers: Nirav Modi's sister Purvi Modi offers her Swiss account funds to the govt

Purvi Modi, sister of fugitive diamond businessman Nirav Modi, has reportedly offered to remit about Rs 275 crore lying in a Swiss bank account to the Indian government.

Earlier this month, The Indian Express, as part of its investigation into the Pandora Papers, had reported, that a month before Nirav Modi fled India in January 2018, Purvi Modi set up a company in the British Virgin Islands to act as a corporate protector of funds in The Deposit Trust.

Purvi had claimed that Brookton Management Ltd, the offshore company was funded by her salary and personal earnings as the creative director of Firestar, the company accused of defrauding Punjab National bank.

Reports citing sources say, Purvi Modi has now given a no-objection letter for remitting about Rs 275 crore lying in the bank account. Earlier this year a court in Mumbai had allowed Nirav's sister Purvi Modi to turn approver in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case.

The Indian government is now reportedly considering Purvi Modi’s application and is in talks with the Swiss authorities for the repatriation of funds.
