Nokia overhauls India operations, set to cut around 250 jobs

Nokia Job Cuts: The Finnish telecommunications giant, is restructuring its operations in India, with significant changes at the executive level and changes in business units. As per the Economic Times report this move will entail the elimination of several C-suite roles, including the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and head of legal affairs.

This restructuring aligns with Nokia's global efforts to streamline operations and cut costs. It is estimated that approximately 250 jobs may be affected by these changes in India. The decision comes amidst challenging market conditions in the country, characterized by reduced 5G capital expenditure by major telecom players such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and the financial struggles of Vodafone Idea.

Tarun Chhabra has been appointed as the new Country Manager for Nokia India, effective April. Chhabra, who currently leads the mobile networks division, will succeed Sanjay Malik upon his retirement. He will report directly to Tommi Uitto, the President of Mobile Networks at Nokia's headquarters.

The restructuring aims to enhance efficiency and adaptability within Nokia's Indian operations, ensuring the company remains competitive in a rapidly evolving telecommunications landscape. By realigning business units and optimizing leadership roles, Nokia seeks to navigate the challenges posed by market dynamics while capitalizing on emerging opportunities.
