Infosys eyes campus placement for niche job profiles

Infosys is looking to hire from campus for roles in cybersecurity and data mining with compensation to be higher than what fresh graduates are offered

Infosys eyes campus placement for niche job profiles

Indian IT giant Infosys has reversed its plans to skip campus placement this year. In a major relief to institutes, Infosys is recruiting a select few who are specializing in cybersecurity and data mining, reported Mint.

Hiring for niche roles

As per Mint, the compensation is higher than what fresh graduates are offered when hired in large numbers. Meanwhile, the report quoted analysts and said even when hiring for niche profiles, IT firms will prefer to recruit talent from campuses rather than the market as the latter will be costlier.

“Infosys is coming for a bigger segment. They are not coming for general hiring. Infosys is hiring for a software engineer’s position next month. There is no clarity on the number of freshers that they will take, but they will pay Rs 9 lakh per annum and above," Savitha Rani M, Training and Placement officer, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology told Mint.

In October last year, Infosys had decided to not visit any college campus this year as it had a “significant fresher bench” amid a demand decline in key markets such as the US. The IT services industry typically absorbs 20-25% of the 1.5 million engineering graduates in India every year.
