Due to its financial troubles and its on-going bankruptcy proceedings, Go First pilots have been put in a tight spot. Pilots say, not only are they yet to receive their dues, but they are unable to resign as well.

In the letter dated May 15, the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) asked the aviation ministry to intervene, saying Go First is not issuing the necessary documents to pilots wanting to resign.

The pilots have also requested that they be allowed to take up new jobs without serving long notice periods.

But Indian government rule from 2017 mandates pilots to serve a one-year notice period, and co-pilots six months, saying it is in the public interest to avoid sudden departures that can result in last minute flight cancellation and travel disruption.

The debt-laden airline had filed for voluntary insolvency resolution proceedings on May 2, following which, many of its pilots were offered jobs by other airlines.

Go First blames a lack of engine supplies from Pratt & Whitney for its financial troubles, an allegation the U.S. firm says is without merit.
