General insurers may soon be able to sell services like gym memberships, auto repairs, and other diagnostic services in addition to their core insurance products, as per a report by Mint.

By allowing insurers to give services and goods associated with their insurance operations, the government hopes to enable them to increase the scope of their product offerings.

Though the Insurance Act would need to be amended in order to enact the suggested changes. The value of insurance distribution functions will also grow with the addition of changes.

The Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2022, is currently undergoing final revisions by the government and is anticipated to be presented during the monsoon session of Parliament once it has received cabinet approval.

Insurance companies may not be permitted to sell financial products like banks or mutual funds, even though they will be permitted to offer products in their "related" line of business, as the government and regulators are still uncertain of its advantages.
