EV battery fire: 1 dead, 2 injured in Telangana; FIR against manufacturer

In the latest incident of an electric vehicle (EV) catching fire, an explosion of a charging battery has claimed one life and left two others injured.

As per reports, an 80-year-old man was killed and two others injured when the detachable battery of an electric scooter, kept on charge inside a home in Telangana, exploded and triggered flames, causing burn injuries.

Police have registered an FIR against the e-scooter manufacturer Pure EV who has seen three incidents of battery fires recently. So far along with Pure, one Ola, two Okinawa, and 20 Jitendra EV scooters have caught fire.

This is not the first incident where a fire has claimed a life. In a second unfortunate event, a father and daughter were killed in the early hours of March 26 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, when an unknown type Okinawa electric scooter caught fire.

The govt has called for an expert panel to probe into the issue and Union minister Nitin Gadkari said the government will issue necessary orders on defaulting companies after receiving the report.
