Boeing is back with broadband, Spicejet gears with the 737 after 2 years

Spicejet is bringing back the Boeing 737 MAX jetliner after grounding it for two years and adding free broadband for customers onboard.

The Boeing 737 MAX jetliner, which was grounded for more than 2 years after 346 people were killed in two fatal air crashes was given the nod for taking to the skies again by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Reassuring travellers, Ajay Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet said, "The aircraft has gone through the greatest scrutiny of any aircraft in history" and is today ''the safest aircraft in the world." Singh reiterated that regulators from worldwide especially the United States, Europe and India had scrutinized the aircraft multiple times before giving a nod for take-off.

SpiceJet, which is among India's largest private airlines, has banked heavily on the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline has already acquired 13 of them out of a total order of 205 jets.

The overall worth of the deal is $22 billion and the airline expects supply of the aircraft to resume December onwards.
