Beer tax! This inflation is hard to gulp

People are fine when inflation hits their food and fuel but things get a bit personal when Australians are asked to pay beer tax that brings the price of a pint up to $15.

Beer drinkers in Australia could soon be forking out up to $10 for a schooner and $15 for a pint as the industry is hit with the biggest tax increase in 30 years.

The tax is set to increase by four per cent, or $2.50 more per litre, marking the largest jump in decades.

While the tax hikes will impact big breweries, pubs, clubs and hotels, many of Australia's micro breweries, buying your own drinks at the bottle shop is no way to avoid the hike either, with taxes on a carton to rise to $18.80.

The Brewers association is pleading with the government to provide tax relief before the hidden beer tax goes up again in February next year.
