Air India flights delay: DGCA issues show cause notice

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation or DGCA has issued a show cause notice to Air India for significant delays in two international flights and failure to adequately care for passengers.

The notice follows a 20-hour delay of a San Francisco-bound Air India flight, during which passengers faced significant distress, with some fainting due to a non-functional air-conditioning system.

According to PTI, flight passengers also had to wait for around an hour in the aerobridge. Originally scheduled to depart at 3:30 pm on Thursday, the flight was rescheduled for Friday afternoon.

The DGCA highlighted delays for flights AI 183 from Delhi to San Francisco on May 30 and AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco on May 24.

The regulator also noted repeated incidents of passenger discomfort caused by Air India, in violation of regulatory norms, as stated in the show cause notice.
