After announcing 12,000 job cuts in January, Google to layoff more employees from mapping service Waze

Google Layoffs: Search giant Google is cutting jobs at its mapping service app Waze. This comes as Google is proceeding with the integration of Waze with its own map products.

Chris Phillips who is the head of Google's Maps division Geo on Tuesday informed the employees about the shift in Waze's ads monetisation. The company has decided to shift Waze's ads management to the Global Business Organisation and align it with Google Maps. By this, roles in the Waze Ads monetization in sales, marketing, operations, and analytics would be affected.

"In order to create a better, more seamless long-term experience for Waze advertisers, we've begun transitioning Waze's existing advertising system to Google Ads technology. As part of this update, we've reduced those roles focused on Waze Ads monetization," Google said in a statement to Reuters.

Google acquired Waze for approximately $1.3 billion in 2013 and currently employs over 500 employees. After witnessing a significant deceleration in revenue growth, Google's parent company Alphabet announced in January that it would be letting go 12,000 employees which is 6% of its workforce.
