Veteran Australian Journalist and Documentary filmmaker John Piler died on December 30, in London at the age of 84.

'You will always be there': Veteran documentary filmmaker John Pilger passes away

Veteran Australian journalist and documentary maker John Pilger died at the age of 84 on December 30.

In a statement posted on his X account, his family wrote that with great sadness the family of John Pilger announce he died in London aged 84.

The post further said that he was celebrated for his works across the world. However, for the family, he was simply the most amazing and loved Dad, Grandad and partner. 'Rest in peace'.

Pilger had covered conflicts in Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Biafar. He was named the Journalist of the Year in 1967 and 1979. In his career, he created more than 50 films and had bagged many awards including an Emmy award for his documentary named Cambodia: The Betrayal.

Throughout his career, Pilger was a strong critic of the foreign policy of the West. He was also a very vocal supporter of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Former Pink Floyd Musician Roger Waters on the demise of Pilger said "I miss you my friend, what a great man you were. We will carry you in our hearts forever, you will always be there to give us strength. Lover R."
