Moscow/London, Sep 17 (PTI) - On Wednesday, several world leaders extended birthday greetings to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who turned 75. Among them were Russian President Vladimir Putin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Born on September 17, 1950, in the small town of Vadnagar in Gujarat, Modi received commendations from President Putin for his significant role in fortifying India-Russia relations. Putin praised Modi's leadership, stating that he has earned "high respect" both at home and on the international stage for his contributions to India's social, economic, scientific, and technical advancements. “You are making a great personal contribution to strengthening the special privileged strategic partnership between our countries,” Putin noted.

A day prior, US President Donald Trump called Modi to convey his birthday wishes, hinting at a potential reset in strained US-India relations after a tariff increase on Indian goods. Trump praised Modi for his efforts and thanked him for supporting the end of the Ukraine conflict.

On Wednesday, Israeli PM Netanyahu described Modi as a "good friend" and lauded their joint achievements in enhancing India-Israel relations. "Happy birthday, my friend," he expressed in a video shared by DD News.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates also sent his regards, wishing Modi "good health and continued strength" in leading India's progress. Gates emphasized the value of the Gates Foundation's partnership with India in promoting development in the Global South.

Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conveyed his birthday greetings, emphasizing the deepening UK-India ties. He fondly recalled his visit to India for the 2023 G20 summit as a significant event highlighting India's global stature.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized the strong friendship between India and Australia, while Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay offered prayers for Modi's well-being. Other leaders, including New Zealand PM Christopher Luxon, Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, Guyana President Irfaan Ali, and Dominica PM Roosevelt Skerrit, also sent their wishes to Modi.
